I'd call it a blog but somehow i feel that word doesn't suit me. it's more common than i'm willing to admit i am. Yes i'm one of those. I think i'm better than everyone else despite my below middle class upbringing and current status. i've always been a bit self righteous. it's my opinion that everyone would look better if i made a few minor adjustments to their outfit and or makeup/hair. i have somehow concocted a long list of fashion rules despite my t-shirt & jeans regular attire. i don't know how i made up this set of rules but i have no intention on budging. anyone not following my fashion rules risks the 'what is that person wearing' comment as i walk by. :
O oh i know i sound like a bitch but
whatcha ganna do. i've tried to be a better person and it doesn't work. is being a bitch such a bad trait anyway? i like lots of bitches. they are usually pretty and interesting to say the least. carla from corrie is my favourite bitch.
i'm also a hypocrite in some respects but if i play it cool you may never find that out. ;)
So here we are, 2009. the first day in the first hours. it's 6:56am. i think starting Quaint Magazine was the coolest thing i did last year. if it wasn't for quaint i may mope today. i have a home studio www.humanfeather.com but business is VERY SLOW. i'm also from arizona. i've been here for 6 years and i can't get used to the weather. in addition to that, there are obviously people i think about and miss back home this time of year. depression can set in easy when all that's in the petri dish. having a place to vent and use up my energy is great. also, it's helping to add stuff to my portfolio so hopefully paid work will just around the corner. but if not, it's still worth it.
quaint is run 100% by volunteers. i don't even know any of them. lol. phil is my boyfriend and has been for several years. i met ray haslam at a photography gig that went bust for some other magazine. it was that day, during a talk with ray that i decided to go for it. i had set up a website about a year ago but never did anything with it. Ray offered to let me use his picture of Victoria Beckham. i thought with her on our front page how can we go wrong lol. still, i never expected quaint magazine to be more than a place for us and a few other togs to show off our work and perhaps have a rant (such as this) from time to time.
i started from scratch on oct 1st or very near that. posting ads on free online jobsites asking for volunteer writers. by nov. 1st we were live at quaintmagazine.com. i had a 4 hour teatime with the assitant editor and i've swaped videos on youtuve this rhys and tom but other than that, we all just get things done via email. i have a team of 12 (and growing) that are quaint at heart. everyone is 'normal' and cool and very classy to say the least. the team is way more than anyone could ever expect to put together online in such a short amount of time. it was like a fucking miracle. this team covers every topic with their interests. well, almost. by mid nov. we had been contacted by a media site that offers an online press room where i was able to read loads of releases and contact prs about interesting products, new fashion and technical items, musicians and artist. it was great. that kicked us off and now we're becoming 'real'. we even have things we can't add yet because we dont have the time. we have gotten to the point where we need someone to take care of emails and another person for our assistant editor to pass her overload too! (yes those are pleas for help)
i don't know exactly what i want to do with quaint magazine as it all started so fast. i like the idea of being trusted for reviews. i want people to know any product or person we promote is cool. i also like the idea of promoting ethical solutions to today's mass market needs.
ok anyway, hope you have a good 2009
i'll do a ramble every now and then.
btw my new years resolution: to show more pride in ownership. :P
what's yours?
